How Insufficient Sleep May Lead To An Acne Outbreak
Friday, May 18th, 2012Even though there has yet to be definite medical evidence that acne can come about from insufficient sleep, there seems to be a strong connection between the two. Whenever you sleep late in the evening frequently, you often rob your body of the adequate amount of sleep necessary for revitalization. This can result to stress, increased insulin resistance and even inflammation. Having said that, we have to first understand what acne is so we can easily see how insufficient sleep can lead to an acne situation.
Acne shows up on the skin surface as blackheads or whiteheads, and in more severe cases as irritated nodules called pustules or papules. Our skin pores each contain an oil gland and a hair follicle. These oil glands or sebaceous glands beneath the skin are in charge of secreting oil to keep the skin moisturized. However, they also have a propensity to accumulate dirt and very tiny debris which can plug the skin pores. As a result, this could cause inflammation which is often called a pimple.
